64 bit vs 32 bit OS | Which is better for you?

Most of us have heard about 64 bit and 32 bit Operating systems, but what does that mean?Which one do you have?Read this article to find out the difference between these two types of OS and decide which is better for you.

At present there are two types of Operating Systems for every computer you are using. They are 64 bit and 32 bit Operating systems. For example if you buy a Windows OS CD,you get two CD's inside the package;one labeled 64 bit and 32 bit.You can install any one of them, but have you ever wondered the differences among them.

A 32 bit operating system is weaker than 64 bit OS.Every instructions the 32 bit OS is doing is 32 bit wide.So it takes lesser RAM.So it need multiple CPU clock cycle to do complex calculations.A typical 32 bit OS uses only uses maximum 4GB of RAM.(2^32=4 million bytes=4GB).Therefore if you care using a resourse intensive programs like Video Encoding etc,the system hangs.

But this is not the case in 64 bit OS.A 64 bit OS actually removes the barrier of RAM usage.Since 2^64 is 16 million million bytes=16 million GB (Windows 7 can have maximum 192 GB RAM).So you can install as much as memory you want. Also a 64 bit OS can do complex calculations much faster than 32 bit OS,since each instruction is 64 bit wide.Inorder to use a 64 bit OS you need a processor with 64 bit architecture, which is almost every processors now on production.

So if you are a computer user who uses only small applications like Web Browsing, watching Movies, playing lite games,a 32 bit OS would be enough for you.But if you are a hardcore gamer,HD video editor etc a 64 bit OS will be the best choice.
